This is a fantastic selection Henry! Some I have read and some not, but I’m sure the read-alone and discussions will improve my appreciation of this classics. When does the January first read start?

Thanks for writing Claudia! I'm really grateful. We'll be starting Anna Karenina on January 10th!

Do you read the books separately then discuss as a group. I'm not sure, I understand how this works?

Hi Dianne! That's right! We read the books separately and discuss at regular intervals. I post my thoughts (usually weekly) and we chat about the latest instalment in the comments. It would be lovely if you wanted to join us - we're starting Dashiell Hammett's The Thin Man on Friday! https://henryeliot.substack.com/s/the-thin-man

I just pulled out my copy of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and wanted to reread! I last read it in 1998 when I was writing about Das kunstseidene Mädchen by Irmgard Keun. Cannot wait to get into this again - and with (new) friends!

Very busy year - does this mean that you will be discussing Anna Karenina at Hatchards in January ?

Hi Miranda - thanks for asking! Probably not I would guess - the Hatchards Classics Book Club is a separate club, which I programme in collaboration with the events managers at Hatchards. Sometimes we read the same titles as on here - but not always!

Dear God! It's going to be a busy year (well, 14 months with Anna Karenina) as I've another slow read on the go, I hope.

'Persuasion' was a GCE text for me - and I can remember sod all about it. I think I probably focused on Hardy.

Ha! It will be busy! But remember you can always opt out of any of the read-alongs - and adjust your email settings so you're not bothered by the notifications. You can toggle which emails you receive here: https://henryeliot.substack.com/account

Don't say that - I'm naturally lazy, so I don't need excuses...

Thanks Simon! It will be great to read along with you. Full details of the Anna Karenina read-along will be arriving nearer the time, but I'm going to suggest we start reading on January 10th.

I have had Mrs Dalloway & Persuasion on my TBR pile for ages so looking forward to both of those. I gave up on Anna Karenina about a third of a way through so hopefully will get further with some help! Looking forward to 2025
