I highly recommend seeking out Goethe's Theory of Colors!

The songs that Schubert composed to Goethe’s poems are very beautiful: ‘Heidenröslein’, ‘Gretchen am Spinnrade’, and ‘Erlkönig’ (et al).

How neat to see his portraits through the years. I just finished my first read-through of Werther last night, and I'm looking forward to revisiting it with this group. As to other questions about Goethe, I am curious to know more about his relationship with Jerusalem and what his romantic life was like between Charlotte and Christiane.

Wonderful! In answer to your second question, Goethe did have other liaisons, the most significant of which was perhaps his ten-year intimacy with Charlotte von Stein in Weimar, and older, married woman. This relationship came to an abrupt end when Goethe left for Italy in 1786 without warning. We'll discuss Jerusalem in a bit more detail as we read, I think.
